Google uses features of Windows 10 2004 to limit the “RAM consumption” of Chrome. In the Windows 10 2004 update (May 2020 Update), Microsoft improved the Segment Heap memory management feature. In the past, this feature only helped streamline and reduce RAM usage for new applications, like the Chromium Edge browser. However, after the update, Segment Heap was used for both Win32 applications, like Chrome.

In Microsoft’s testing, Segment Heap was able to reduce the RAM usage of Edge browser with Chromium by 27%.

Positive test results from Microsoft have attracted the attention of Google. An engineer of the search giant has revealed that Google is considering bringing Segment Heap to Chrome support instead of the old memory management method.

“Testing with” Segment Heap “shows that this feature helps reduce chrome.exe’s RAM usage by hundreds of megabytes. The results will vary by computer type and computer configuration. processing will reduce the amount of RAM consumed by Chrome better, ” shared Google engineers anonymously.

The engineer further revealed that without a problem, Google would have enabled Segment Heap for Chrome. Currently, Google is trying to overcome so that users can say goodbye to Chrome consuming RAM.
