AUTOMATIC EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE FOR FOREIGNERS IN VIETNAM
- Foreigners who enter on a visa-free basis or enter with an e-visa or tourist visa from March 1, 2020 shall continue to be “automatically extended temporary residence” until the end of the 31st day. You can exit during the above time without applying for extension of temporary residence from August 2020. In case of entering before March 1, 2020, if it is proven that you got stuck due to the Covid-19, certified with a diplomatic note (with a Vietnamese translation) or certified in writing of Vietnamese competent authorities about being quarantined, Covid-19 treatment or other force majeure … are also considered to apply “automatic temporary extension” until the end of August 31, 2020. You must submit the note or confirmation document upon exit.
- Foreigners, during the “automatic extension of temporary residence” period, must make a temporary residence declaration and medical declaration according to regulations.
- Foreigners who are not subject to the provisions of Section 1 of this Notice or commit other law violations, shall comply with the current provisions of Vietnamese law.

Several special flights in recent months have repatriated hundreds of foreigners stranded in Vietnam to Europe, North America and Southeast Asia.
As of August 7, Vietnam’s Ministry of Health confirmed a total of 750 cases of COVID-19. However, 392 of the affected patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Vietnam has also recorded 10 deaths due to the pandemic. The latest local cases have been reported from Da Nang, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, and Quang Tri.
