How to switch to the old GA for new properties

To create a web property (now known as a Universal Property), with a UA-XXXX-X format tracking id.. 

Create a new property, then on the Property setup page, click on Show advanced options and toggle on the option for a UA property

it gives you the option of creating both property types or just a Universal Analytics property only.

Select to create just a universal property.

 

 

 

 

 

If you have accidently created and do not want a GA4 Property, select the GA4 Property from the drop Property column drop down, then select it’s Property Settings page and at the upper right, click the Send to Trash option to delete it.

 

How to delete a property in Google Analytics

You must have Edit permission to move a property to the Trash Can. Moving a property to the Trash Can also moves all component views to the Trash Can. To move a property to the Trash Can:

1. Sign in to Google Analytics..
2. Click Admin, and navigate to the property you want to delete.
3. In the PROPERTY column, click Property Settings.
4. Click Move to Trash Can.
5. On the confirmation screen, click Move property to Trash Can.

How to change Google Analytics 4 to Universal

Remember, there is no data migration mechanism between Google Analytics 4 and Universal Analytics. If you created a GA4 property some time ago and now you want to migrate to Universal Analytics, you will have to create a new property from scratch.

GA4 and UA are completely different tools with different data schema, features, etc.

If you are starting a new project, which GA version should you choose? That’s tough to answer. In the future, the answer will be “definitely GA4”. But right now, the new version is lacking some reporting and tracking features. So personally, I create both properties. But this is the opinion of early 2021. In the future, it is very likely to change.
